Linebacker Wesley Bissainthe, who just enrolled at Miami in January of this year, was reportedly involved in a deadly car accident on Friday night, according to the Miami Herald. Bissainthe was the passenger in the vehicle he was traveling in, and he needed stitches to repair cuts on his ankle. He did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

“University of Miami freshman linebacker Wesley Bissainthe on Friday evening was the passenger in a car accident in which the 52-year-old driver of the other car was killed,” Susan Miller Degnan and Charles Rabin of the Miami Herald wrote. “A traffic accident report from Miami-Dade police described the accident but did not list the names of most of the people in the vehicles. A source confirmed to the Miami Herald that Bissainthe was a passenger.”

Bissainthe came to Miami as a four-star recruit, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average. He was a national top 200 recruit and the 16th-rated linebacker in the 2022 class.

There were four occupants in the car that Bissainthe was in. The other vehicle in the accident was driven by 52-year-old Saul Dauphin, who died on the scene. He reportedly made a left turn which created the collision.

Bissanthe committed to Miami after a senior campaign at Miami Central High School where he totaled 47 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and six sacks, along with two interceptions and two forced fumbles. He had 45 tackles with 21 tackles for loss and seven sacks as a junior.

Bissainthe is part of a highly ranked Miami 2022 class

Miami brought in 14 players as part of its 2022 recruiting class, the first under new head football coach Mario Cristobal. Cristobal brought in 12 four-star players to Miami, including Bissainthe. The Hurricanes also added two three-star players, and the class finished with an average rating of 90.85.

On3 ranked Miami’s 2022 recruiting class as the 12th-highest in all of college football, narrowly missing out on the top 10. Miami went 7-5 overall last season and 5-3 against ACC opponents.
