Things have gone to bad to worse for the Miami Hurricanes in their final game of the season against Pittsburgh. Heading into the half, Miami trails Pittsburgh 28-0. But right before heading into the locker room Hurricanes Tyrique Stevenson was disqualified from game for targeting.

Stevenson, who transferred to Miami during the off season, went in to make a tackle on the Panthers sophmore wide receiver Konata Mumpfield. When attempting the tackle the Miami native dropped his head down hitting moonfield square in his face mask. the review for targeting did not come from the officials on the field but from the ones in the booth who signal down to stop playing for the review process. After a lengthy review Stephenson was in fact called for targeting and has been disqualified for the remainder of the game.

Miami must quickly figure things out in the locker room at halftime as they have yet to find any rhythm on offense or defense. If this continues, stevenson’s loss won’t be the only major talking point following Saturday night’s game.

Miami falls hard to Pitt; fails to be bowl eligible

The season did not end anywhere near the way Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes brass expected, and their final game of the season was the icing on the cake. Miami threw back-to-back interceptions on their first two drives to start the game. The first was by injured starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke who only played the first drive. The second was by Jacurri Brown, who also only played one drive. The rest of the game was quarterbacked by third-string QB Jake Garcia. Garcia finished the game with 192 passing yards, completing 17 of his 28 pass attempts and two touchdowns, and he didn’t throw an interception.

Defensively things wern’t to much better. The Hurricanes allowed 504 yards of total offense; 248 on the ground and 256 through the air. Panthers running back Isreal Abanikanda led the charge on the ground with 15 rushes for 111 yards, and two touchdowns.

This likely wraps up Miami’s season. And if that is the case, Cristobal and his coaching staff can start making their plans and prererations for next season. A repeat of the events of this yearcan not happen in 2023 and the Hurricanes head man will make sure of it.
