Portland (Ore.) West Linn four-star quarterback Sam Leavitt received an offer from Michigan State on Wednesday. The Washington State commit announced the news over social media.

Leavitt is taking an official visit to the Spartans this weekend, he told Jason Killop of SpartanMag. He started communication with Michigan State’s coaching staff in October.

“We have been building a relationship with the staff right now,” Leavitt said. “I like the staff a lot. Obviously, it is a great program. I am excited to go up on a visit and see what they are about.”

Leavitt is the No. 599 overall prospect and No. 32 quarterback in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also a three-star recruit and the No. 2 player in Oregon.

On3 rates Leavitt higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2023 On300, he is a four-star recruit, the No. 141 overall prospect, No. 10 quarterback and No. 1 player in Oregon.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound signal-caller has been committed to the Cougars since July 2. He is the highest-rated prospect in Washington State’s 2023 recruiting class.

Meanwhile, Michigan State does not have a quarterback commit in its 2023 class. An offer to Leavitt comes as the Spartans have been attempting to flip Detroit Martin Luther King five-star quarterback Dante Moore from Oregon.

Leavitt has an On3 NIL Valuation of $18.2K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Sam Leavitt On3 Scouting Summary

The following is the On3 Scouting Summary for Sam Leavitt:

“Pure passer who looks like one of the top arm talents and playmakers in the deep 2023 quarterback cycle. Has a stout frame, measuring at 6-foot-2, 197 pounds with a 9.5-inch hand prior to his senior season. Also registers as a good athlete, running a 4.67 second 40-yard dash and 4.38 second short shuttle. A senior riser who turned in a fantastic final season after transferring high schools. Led his team to a state title, while completing 69.1 percent of his passes for over 3,000 yards (a stellar 12.6 yards per attempt) and 36 touchdowns against five interceptions. Pairs that accurate, efficient statistical profile with considerable arm talent. Makes eye-popping throws with regularity, including some of the best individual plays we’ve seen from a 2023 signal caller.

“Has outstanding natural passing mechanics with quick, fluid arm action. Generates considerable velocity on his throws to all levels. Can drive and layer the football from off-platform. Plays with natural field vision and throws receivers open. Looks to be a loose, coordinated athlete. Shows some playmaking ability with his feet, rushing for 713 yards and eight touchdowns, including a big game on the ground in the state championship game. Fares well against the pass rush and shows creativity both as a passer and runner. Has some football bloodlines as his father was a linebacker at BYU and his older brother, Dallin Leavitt, is a safety with the Green Bay Packers.”
