Picking up right where it left off a year ago after winning the Big Ten and advancing to the College Football Playoff, Michigan is again very much in contention to repeat. The Wolverines have also amassed a solid recruiting class, which currently ranks No. 26 nationally in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. Part of that group is Carlsbad (Calif.) three-star tight end Zack Marshall, who committed to the Wolverines in August.

On3 was out in California recently and caught up with the nation’s No. 24 tight end as Carlsbad prepared for the state playoffs.

Things have been so fast with you, going to Michigan in July, earning the offer, committing. Here you are now a couple months later. How are you feeling?

ZM: I feel amazing. You just see how well they’re doing during the season and how good the program is. People doubt them every week, and they come up and show who they are. And I’m excited to be part of it.

What do you think the key is to Michigan’s success?

ZM: It starts at the top with Jim Harbaugh and those guys in the coaching staff. They’re putting together a great game plan. If you saw, it was tight in the first half. And then they made some adjustments and made the better adjustments that week. They ended up winning big because of how well they’re coached.

As a commit, how do you watch the games?

ZM: I’m watching Luke Schoonmaker, Erick All, sadly he’s hurt. I’m watching those guys, seeing if we’re running outside zone, how are they blocking and carrying themselves on and off the field? I follow both of them on Instagram, I go on both of their IG Lives, and I want to see what it’s like to be in that position. Now watching the games, it’s all about where I see myself wearing that Maize and Blue.

What made you want to commit to Michigan so early?

ZM: The combination of academics and athletics; it’s just better than everywhere else. The place is amazing. And everywhere you go in the city, it’s maize and blue. A2 is a great town, and I couldn’t get enough of it while I was there; I knew I wanted to be there for four years.

When you think about the future in Ann Arbor as a Michigan Wolverine, what excites you the most?

ZM: I’m excited to be in the locker room after a game where we beat Ohio State, singing ‘Hail to the Victors.’ That’s what I’m excited for.

Give people a little bit of insight about Jim Harbaugh, your interactions with him, him as a person and a coach. What are your thoughts on him?

ZM: He’s one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. He really insights into you just by looking at you, watching how you interact. And I’ve been grateful to get to speak with him multiple times and even get to talk with some of his family. I couldn’t be more grateful to have him as a coach.

For Michigan fans that haven’t seen you play, what are they getting in you as a player?

ZM: A very versatile playmaker who is going to go and get the ball every time it’s in the air. I’m a guy who can get open, move pretty well for my size, and I’m going to give you every ounce of effort I have.
