Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward three-star offensive tackle Ben Roebuck has committed to Michigan. He last visited the Wolverines on March 18.

Roebuck is the No. 594 overall prospect and No. 40 offensive tackle in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 20 player in Ohio.

“Something that really stands out to me about Michigan is they have a rich history with winning,” Roebuck told Zach Libby of The Wolverine on Dec. 18. “They’re the winningest program in college football history. Winning is something that I really like. I hate losing more than I like winning so going to a school that wins a lot is something that sounds really good to me.”

During the last two seasons, Michigan has won the Joe Moore Award, given to the top offensive line in college football. That success in the trenches stands out to Roebuck.

“Something that Coach (Sherrone) Moore has been talking to me about is that he trains all of his offensive lineman to play all five positions,” Roebuck said. “Really, that’s something – I think – not a lot of coaches do. But that’s for a reason. Like, if a guy goes down, they can move one of the starters to that spot and pull someone else up. The flexibility that Michigan has on their offensive line is something that really separates them.”

Michigan building momentum on the recruiting trail

One of Michigan’s recent trends on the recruiting trail is landing talented players from Ohio. The Wolverines currently have four commits from the Buckeye State in Roebuck, Cincinnati (Ohio) Archbishop Moeller four-star running back Jordan Marshall, Avon (Ohio) four-star interior offensive lineman Luke Hamilton and Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier three-star defensive lineman Ted Hammond.

Additionally, the Wolverines’ 2024 recruiting class contains nine players. They include Roebuck, Marshall, Hamilton, Hammond, Bellevue (Wash.) four-star tight end Hogan Hansen, Harper Woods (Mich.) four-star safety Jacob Oden and Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth four-star linebacker Mason Curtis. Wallingford (Conn.) Choate Rosemary Hall three-star interior offensive lineman Manuel Beigel and South Park (Penn.) three-star linebacker Zach Ludwig are two others.

Roebuck is Michigan’s second commitment in the last two days following Marshall. The Wolverines are still in the hunt for some of their top targets.

Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis, Rochester (Mich.) four-star tight end Brady Prieskorn and Austin (Texas) Vandegrift four-star interior offensive lineman Blake Frazier are just a few of them. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Michigan has a commanding lead to land their pledges.
