Former Michigan cornerback Andre Seldon will transfer to New Mexico State, he announced Thursday via Twitter. Seldon played sparingly at Michigan and was buried on the depth chart.

A four-star recruit in 2020, Seldon was the No. 12 cornerback according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average. He chose the Wolverines over offers from Iowa State, Kentucky, Maryland and others.

The 5-foot-8, 173 pound corner notched 27 tackles, six interceptions and three pass breakups as a high school senior, including one pick-six, and added four punt returns for touchdowns. He played in only two games throughout his Michigan career, last year at Rutgers and this year against Northern Illinois.

Seldon joins Michigan cornerbacks George Johnson and Darrion Green-Warren as players to transfer.

There were rumors this spring that Seldon might leave the program. His father, however, shot them down in a late-April tweet.

“Andre Seldon Jr. is not transferring from Michigan,” he wrote. “I don’t know where [you’re] getting info from. My son is a warrior waiting on his opportunity and getting the best education.

“He’ll be ready when his time comes. Now, please stop asking me about that.”

The Wolverines are coming off of the most impressive season of the Jim Harbaugh era. They finished the year 12-2, claiming a Big Ten Championship and earning a trip to the College Football Playoff. They lost in a semifinal to eventual champion Georgia to end their season.

Seldon is set to join a a New Mexico State team that has spent the past four seasons as an independent. The Aggies have had just two winning seasons since 2000, with the most recent coming in 2017. Coach Doug Martin just completed his ninth season, going 2-10. He has a 25-74 overall record with NMSU.

Seldon’s first opportunity to make an impact on his new team comes Aug. 27 when the Aggies open 2022 against Nevada.
