For the first time in 26 years, Michigan has won the national championship. Jim Harbaugh was brought to Ann Arbor to bring the program back to the promised land and delivered on Monday night in Houston. A performance against Washington that fits the description of the 2023 season, the Wolverines are the final team standing.

The Harbaugh Family is an accomplished one in football but Jim himself did not have a championship on his resume. His father, Jack, won a national championship with Western Kentucky at the Division II level while his brother, John, won Super Bowl 47 with the Baltimore Ravens.

Winning those two was certainly special for the Harbaugh family, especially with that Super Bowl having Jim Harbaugh on the other sideline. But finally, Jim has his own championship to celebrate. He was asked how special this one was for him describing it as “glorious.” Then, he pulled out an old quote from his quarterback.

“It’s such a glorious feeling,” Harbaugh said when speaking to ESPN’s Holly Rowe. “Really don’t have any more words than that. Maybe to quote JJ McCarthy ‘Bet.’”

Harbaugh did his interview with ESPN while soaking wet, finally getting a Gatorade bath. He was able to avoid the first one but when you win a national championship, players are going to be persistent.

There was also confetti flying down from the sky, with everyone on the Michigan side taking the moment in. Harbaugh was mesmerized and like his normal self, nearly speechless.

“You watch this confetti come down, it’s 1,000s of confetti,” Harbaugh began. “It tells a story. There is a story in every one of those pieces of confetti. Maize and Blue confetti. Just so proud of our team.”

Harbaugh is certainly right about there being a crazy story when it comes to Michigan’s season. Filled with controversy off-the-field, nobody involved with the program cares about that at the moment. For now, it’s about celebrating the long journey toward bringing another title back to Ann Arbor.

There was plenty for Michigan to overcome this season on the field. Harbaugh was suspended for six total games for two different reasons. Injuries came down the stretch, with Zak Zinter hitting home the most during the Ohio State game. People were asking if they even deserved to be playing in the College Football Playoff.

Either way, Michigan was able to overcome and will have a banner to hang in the Big House. Team 144 will be remembered forever.
