Michigan reportedly offered Jim Harbaugh a massive new contract but there’s a no-NFL clause for 2024.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Harbaugh can become the highest paid coach in college football. However, he could not entertain a return to the NFL for next season, should he sign the deal.

This comes ahead of a pivotal year in the College Football Playoff where Harbaugh’s Wolverines are the No. 1 seed.

“Sources say Harbaugh, whose current deal runs through 2026, received an offer from Michigan for a 10-year, $125-million contract extension that would make him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football,” Rapoport wrote. “Yet there is a caveat, and it’s NFL-related.

“If he signed the deal — which he has not yet done — Harbaugh would agree not to entertain or accept an NFL job for the 2024 season. The NFL clause would be one season only, but that’s apparently been enough to drag out the process.”

Rapoport also reported Michigan offered Harbaugh a shorter deal worth $11 million per year. Although the length of the contract was not revealed.

There seems to be a lot going on at the moment regarding Harbaugh and Michigan. The school recently received a notice of allegations due to an ongoing NCAA investigation from 2020.

With that, the Los Angeles Chargers reportedly have interest in Harbaugh. The coach could be weighing that potential job and staying at his alma mater.

In nine seasons, Harbaugh is 87-25 with the Wolverines program. He arrived in 2015 after a four-year stint coaching the San Francisco 49ers. Prior to that, Harbaugh had college experience for four years coaching the Stanford program, from 2007-10.

Harbaugh teased that he could be back in 2024 regardless of the results in the CFP.

“I just wanna say, I hope some of you are coming back next year,” the coach said according to local news anchor Derick Hutchinson, alluding to seniors who could play one more season in Ann Arbor.

During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, FOX Sports reporter Bruce Feldman weighed in on Harbaugh’s future with the program.

“I would think Jim Harbaugh is entertaining offers from the NFL,” Feldman said. “[If Michigan wins the College Football Playoff] I think he’s done. I think he’s definitely going to the NFL. If he does [win it all], mission accomplished. ‘I have never won a Super Bowl. My brother’s won a Super Bowl. I never won. I came close.’ I mean, you think if he wins a national title, he’s staying there forever?”
