What's Going On With Jim Harbaugh, Michigan Football & The Ncaa Harbaugh Facing 4 Game Suspension

While speaking at Big Ten Media Days, Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh responded to Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day suggesting they should consider moving The Game.

As Harbaugh explained, he doesn’t have a personal preference for when The Game is played but did note it’s a tradition to play it when they do now.

“We’ll play that whenever it’s scheduled to be played,” Jim Harbaugh said. “We know we’re gonna play it every season at least once, but I don’t have a particular opinion of when it should be played right now. It’s been played the last game of the season. I think everybody’s used to that. That’s part of the Thanksgiving tradition now, so that’s when we’ll expect it.”

Ryan Day has a deep appreciation for The Game. However, he does feel like there should be a conversation about when it’s actually played. In particular, he feels it would be easier for both teams to make the College Football Playoff if The Game was played earlier.

“At the same time, you also want to do the best you can to get as many guys into the playoffs,” Day said. “People see it from different points of view. I’m glad we still have the rivalry game. I do think we should consider when we play it, just because you may end up playing it back to back weeks … which would be awkward. I know we need to consider the tradition, but I think it’s worth a conversation on when.”

For now, The Game will be played when it always is, at the end of November to end the regular season. It will be interesting to see if the debate grows about The Game going forward or if Jim Harbaugh changes his mind about when it should be played.

Jim Harbaugh pressed on his suspension

Jim Harbaugh is facing a four-game suspension to open the 2023 season, relating to not being cooperative with an NCAA investigation. This suspension is being negotiated and hasn’t been officially announced yet.

At Big Ten Media Days, Harbaugh was asked about this suspension, but couldn’t give an answer due to the circumstances.

“As you probably already know I can’t, I’m not allowed to talk about any aspect of that ongoing situation,” Harbaugh said. “I’m with you, I’d love to lay it all out there. Nothing to be ashamed of. But now is not that time. That’s about all there is to say about that.”
