Sherrone Moore Introductory Press Conference: Highlights Of Michigan Head Coach Announcement

Following a national championship season, Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL and was replaced by offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore. It’s a move that earned the approval of basketball coach Juwan Howard.

Moore was at Michigan’s recent basketball game against Iowa and Howard joked that he was more than aware of the new head football coach’s presence.

“At a timeout, I think I heard his voice and the crowd got really excited and loud,” Juwan Howard said. Then I had to speak even louder in the huddle because I thought my team didn’t hear me. I’m really disappointed in Sherrone because now I’m really hoarse now because with the excitement which he brought, which is great, that caused me to feel a little sick.”

Jokes aside, Howard emphasized how happy he is that Moore landed the head job at Michigan and praised who he is as a person.

“But on a serious note, I am so happy for Sherrone and I’m going to be his biggest supporter like I was before when he was the offensive line coach. Then he got the promotion promotion as being our offensive coordinator,” Howard said.

“I’ll never forget when I was in the hospital and I had my surgery, he was the coach of the Bowling Green game. And after the game, he gave the game ball to me. And I have that game ball, which is in my office. I thought that was super classy and professional on his part. The relationship that we have before promotion, and now what he is and what his program is going to look like — they’re gonna be special and he’s going to have me and my family supporting him like no other.”

Sherrone Moore inherits a team that has gone to the College Football Playoff three straight times and won the most recent national championship. There is going to be an expectation that the Wolverines continue that success.

“I’m just ecstatic for Michigan athletics and I’m happy that Warde [Manuel] would do it. He was going to make the right decision and he sure did make a decision that’s going to be great for our program, asking Sherrone to be the leader of our football program,” Howard concluded.

Juwan Howard says he will be Los Angeles Chargers fan for Jim Harbaugh

Juwan Howard also addressed Jim Harbaugh leaving Michigan for the Los Angeles Chargers, emphasizing that he will root for the team now that Harbaugh is there.

“Well, I’m a big time Bears fan. And now I became a big time [Los Angeles] Chargers fan. But I follow Jim’s career when he was playing for the Bears, also when Jim went to San Diego, and he went to Stanford, and we know what happened with the 49ers. I was rooting for him when he was with the 49ers. I’m not gonna tell you who I was rooting for when the brothers played in the Super Bowl. But we all know how I supported him while he was here and that support will follow,” Howard said.

“When he moved on to LA, he made the right decision that was best for his family. He did something that was so special. That’s so hard to do. A perfect season, win three-straight Big Ten titles in three-straight years and a national title. It’s hard, and I know how hard it is to win on that level.”
