Michigan forward Youssef Khayat has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned.

Khayat saw limited playing time in his two seasons with the Wolverines, playing in nine games with one start in his freshman season and making 17 game appearances last season. Averaging 5.9 minutes per game in his Michigan career.

As a true freshman, he averaged 1.3 points per game with 12 total points on the season, which he doubled last season with 24 points on the season in his 17 games played. Averaging 1.4 points and 1.1 rebounds per game for the 2023-2024 season.

Born in Beirut, Lebanon, Khayat left home at the age of 16 to play with the club team Limoges in France. Spending four seasons with Limoges before heading to Ann Arbor to join Michigan in 2022, averaging 16.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 32 games in his final season.

Khayat did not play high school basketball, instead playing for Limoges where he was an unrated and unranked recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Along with Michigan Khayat received offers from Wake Forest, DePaul, and Xavier.

Michigan transfer portal activity

Khayat is the third Michigan player to enter the NCAA transfer portal so far this offseason, joining sophomore point guard Dug McDaniel and forward Tarris Reed.

Both McDaniel and Reed were starters for the Wolverines last season, with McDaniel leading the team in points, assists, and steals per game while Reed led Michigan in rebounds and blocks per game.

Both players showed significant improvement from their freshman seasons in Ann Arbor, as McDaniel averaged 16.3 points and 4.7 assists per game this past season doubling his scoring output. Meanwhile Reed went from averaging 3.4 points and 3.9 rebounds a game off of the bench last season to 9.0 points and 7.2 boards per game as a sophomore starter.

Unfortunately their improvement did not lead to improvement for the Wolverines, who finished last in the Big Ten with an 8-24 record and just three wins in conference play. Resulting in the firing of head coach Juwan Howard following the season after his fifth season coaching his alma mater. Which could likely result in even more transfer portal movement for the Wolverines this offseason.
