Nearing the end of the first quarter of Michigan’s game vs. Indiana, Wolverine running backs coach Mike Hart collapsed on the sideline and required a stretcher to be carted off the field and out of the stadium.

But midway through the second quarter, sideline reporter Jenny Taft provided a further update on the situation. Here was what she said regarding Hart:

“Well, what I can tell you is that Coach Mike Hart has left Memorial Stadium in an ambulance for further evaluation. His wife Monique was by his side. He was alert on the stretcher, giving thumbs up.”

Taft also added that the sidelines for both teams were shaken up after the scary situation.

“And as you can imagine, it has been a bit emotional on Michigan’s sideline, with JJ McCarthy specifically checking on Blake Corum, Donovan Edwards. And some emotion from Indiana as well. You pointed out he coached here (Indiana). He means a lot to both these teams.”

Prayers up for Coach Hart and a speedy recovery. Here was the initial report of the Hart situation:

Mike Hart collapses on sideline, carted off field

Scary scene in Bloomington early Saturday afternoon. Immediately following a Hoosier touchdown during the first quarter of Michigan’s away game against Indiana, Wolverine running backs coach Mike Hart collapsed on the sidelined and had to be carted off on a stretcher.

On3’s Anthony Broome added a positive report a few minutes later in a tweet, noting that Hart was responsive as he left the field, even giving a thumbs-up to a worried Hoosier and Wolverine crowd.

“Thumbs up after he was carted off the field. He was responsive and alert on the cart. Obviously a horrifying situation,” tweeted Broome.

Prayers up for Michigan coach Mike Hart. Very scary situation. Thankfully, Hart seems to be alright. Michigan and Indiana were knotted at 7-7 when he went down near the end of the first quarter.
