The Michigan football program will look much different in 2024 as several key coaches and players from last year’s national title team are gone. That includes star running back Blake Corum, who will be replaced by Donovan Edwards this season.

Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore spoke with FOX during Saturday’s spring game and shared what he wants to see from Donovan Edwards this fall, particularly from a leadership standpoint.

“You know, really from a vocal standpoint, do what Blake did when he felt like it was necessary,” Sherrone Moore said. “He’s starting to do that. He’s been a tremendous leader this spring. Just super excited for him as he progresses as a leader.”

Blake Corum rushed for 1,245 yards and 27 touchdowns last season, playing a pivotal role in Michigan’s run to a national championship.

Donovan Edwards rushed for 497 yards and five scores last year, including 104 yards and two scores in the national title game against Washington.

Moore expects him to be even better in 2024 after adding some weight and improving as a player.

“I’m excited to watch him,” Moore said. “He got to watch one of the best in college football at short yardage football… he’s going to try and emulate him and surpass him.”

Blake Corum hypes up former teammate Donovan Edwards, reveals message to 2024 Michigan squad

Blake Corum spoke with FOX’s Jenny Taft while attending his first Spring Game as a former member of the Michigan Wolverines.

First, Corum explained what it’s like to be back in Ann Arbor as a former player, while he’s preparing for the 2024 NFL Draft.

“It feels great being back,” Corum stated.” A little weird, you know, not having the maize and blue on. Not the shoulder pad, the helmet, but it’s great. It feels really good. They’re looking pretty good. So I’m expecting big things.”

Corum’s former teammate Donovan Edwards will be leading the backfield in 2024. Ahead of his upgraded share of the carries, Corum is expecting Edwards to have a phenomenal campaign.

“I expect to him just do what he does. Now he has really like, the platform to just go and ball out, you know. I expect really big things,” Corum added. “He’s been working really hard. It looks like he got a little bigger. As we already saw, you know, he’s running hard, breaking tackles. I’m like, Okay Don.’ … I’m super excited to see him just go crazy.”

Corum truly represented what Michigan strives to achieve year-in and year-out, and the running back doesn’t take that lightly, believing the Wolverines prepared him and his teammates for immense success in life.

“I mean, Michigan prepares you each and every way,” Corum explained. “Academically, we had the time management, right. And so that was one part. Hard work, we’re going to do that. You know, so on and off the field, Michigan just prepared each and every one of us for the next level, whether that be the NFL. Whether that be you know, going to Fortune 500 company, it doesn’t matter. We’re ready. That’s what the University of Michigan does.”
