From the jump, Michigan has been involved in the recruitment of Belleville (Mich.) Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 prospect in the 2025 cycle.

The in-state program has planned on being in the running for the 6-foot-3, 210-pounder up until he announces his commitment. Underwood has stayed consistent on planning to announce his decision on Jan. 6, and the Wolverines are indeed one of the frontrunners for his pledge.

Not the frontrunner, however. That distinction currently belongs to LSU. Multiple On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) picks have been logged in favor of Underwood committing to the Tigers as his decision date edges closer.

Michigan had another chance to make a splash with the elite signal-caller over the weekend, though. Underwood was in Ann Arbor as the Wolverines took down Ohio State to nab a spot in the Big Ten Championship game.

Following the visit, Michigan recruiting insider Zach Libby joined The Inside Scoop to breakdown the importance of getting Underwood back on campus, as well as where the Wolverines stand for the QB.

“It’s huge. LSU has gained monumental momentum this fall after that game-day visit in October. Despite Michigan getting a QB commitment in the 2025 recruiting class earlier this month in Carter Smith, Michigan has not waved the white flag for the player who’s 30 minutes away from Ann Arbor,” Libby said.

…Kirk Campbell is still in communication with Underwood and his family … with a little more than 40 days left until his expected commitment date on Jan. 6, potentially getting that last visit is huge for Michigan.”

LSU still in good position for Underwood

LSU currently has a 91.9% chance to land Underwood, per the On3 RPM. Every visit to Baton Rouge has been an impressive one and QBs coach Joe Sloan has been at the helm of the recruitment for the Tigers.

Add in the chance to play in the SEC, as well as the eye-popping success of current LSU QB Jayden Daniels, and the Bayou Bengals might be tough to beat when it’s all said and done. Libby is yet to log an RPM pick of his own, but he too is leaning in favor of LSU as the calendar nears December.

“Jayden Daniels’ season this year has really opened the eyes of Underwood. The atmosphere of Baton Rouge, we all saw him during that October visit having a great time. He’s always had an interest of playing in a conference like the SEC, going back to his freshman year,” Libby said.

“The overall feeling right now is Michigan isn’t completely out of it … but as of right now, I think the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine is accurate with the two predictions, and if I had to pick one, it would be the Tigers.”
