Michigan is promoting offensive analyst Kirk Campbell to quarterbacks coach, the team announced on Friday. On3’s Matt Zenitz was first to report the news.

Campbell was previously the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Old Dominion. He also served as the Penn State interim quarterbacks coach for a brief stint prior to that, among other coaching roles.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Robert McCollum Family Quarterback Coach at the University of Michigan,” Campbell said in a release announcing the hire. “I enjoy my relationship with Coach Harbaugh and our staff, and I look forward to working with them as we develop, mentor and coach great players. My family and I love everything about this university and football program, especially the people that I get to work with daily.”

Campbell spent 2020 and 2021 at Old Dominion, where he arrived after spending multiple seasons at Penn State as an offensive analyst. He coached the 2019 Cotton Bowl against Memphis as the interim quarterbacks coach before going to Old Dominion.

Campbell began his coaching career at Alderson Broaddus University in West Virginia.

Michigan was in the market for a quarterbacks coach after co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Matt Weiss was placed on leave and eventually fired earlier in January. Weiss is alleged to have committed “computer access crimes” at the Michigan football facility.

Now, the Wolverines and head coach Jim Harbaugh have a key piece of the coaching staff in place for 2023.

“Kirk is a bright, young offensive mind that immediately meshed with our coaching staff last year,” said Harbaugh. “Our offensive staff was really impressed with his knowledge and expertise of the entire offense, and he was integral to the success of the offense with game planning and opponent scouting. Kirk does an outstanding job developing relationships and I know he will have an outstanding rapport with our quarterbacks,” Harbaugh said in the release.
