The Michigan Wolverines football program has yet to make it to their spring game and they already have at least one player exiting the program. On3 has learned that senior tight end Josh Beetham is now looking for a new home after entering the NCAA transfer portal for the second time in his collegiate career.

Beetham played high school football at Yorkville High School in Yorkville, IL. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, he was not ranked in the 2020 recruiting cycle. Beetham is listed as both a tight end and quarterback for Michigan on various sites. He has taken a single snap for the Wolverines.

The news of Beetham leaving Ann Arbor, MI, comes on the heels of another former Michigan tight end finding his new college football home earlier in the month. Former Wolverine Matthew Hibner committed to playing for the SMU Mustangs after spending nearly three months in the NCAA transfer portal himself. Hibner entered the portal in mid-January, shortly after Michigan captured last year’s national championship.

Michigan hires Lou Esposito from Memphis as the new defensive line coach

Michigan is making a big move regarding their coaching staff, poaching a sitting assistant from the Memphis Tigers.

According to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports, the Wolverines are expected to hire Memphis assistant Lou Esposito as its new defensive line coach. He was previously the defensive coordinator at Western Michigan.

Zenitz shared the news to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday, as the Wolverines continue to remake their coaching staff in 2024.

“Michigan is expected to hire Memphis’ Lou Esposito as its new defensive line coach; sources tell @247Sports,” Zenitz posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Was previously defensive coordinator at Western Michigan.

“Led the way for the MAC’s No. 2 ranked scoring defense in 2022 and has developed players like current early-round NFL draft prospect Marshawn Kneeland.”

Alas, Michigan hasn’t been shy about making changes to their coaching staff in 2024. We’ll see how Lou Esposito fits in for the Wolverines moving forward.
