Michigan is set to welcome a fast-rising running back to Ann Arbor for an official visit this summer.

Gaithersburg (Md.) Quince Orchard four-star RB Iverson Howard will take his OV to the Wolverines from June 7-9, he tells On3’s Chad Simmons. He’s also set to return for an unofficial visit on April 20.

Howard visited Michigan last year, but there will be something different when he comes by across the next couple of months. Earlier this week, the Wolverines made a splash by hiring RBs coach Tony Alford away from bitter rival Ohio State.

“He is a Great coach overall and he’s produced a lot of talented backs,” Howard told On3 of the new U-M assistant.

Last fall, Howard told The Wolverine that Michigan was at the top of his list, but a major part of his interest in the program was via former RBs coach Mike Hart. He’ll soon return and look to build relationships with Alford and the new staff in Ann arbor.

Howard is the No. 276 overall prospect and No. 24 burner in the 2025 cycle, according to the updated 2025 On300. He ranks No. 404 overall in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

At the beginning of 2024, Howard trimmed his list of top schools down to 10. Joining Michigan at the top is Florida, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Maryland, NC State, Miami, Ole Miss and Oregon.

“The way coaches from these schools always stay in touch is a big reason why they are on this list,” Howard told On3. “From day one, when each of these schools offered me, they have shown a lot of love. I have relationships with every staff, they reach out every week during the season and they always keep in straight up with me. The way they have recruited me means a lot.”

In the 2025 cycle, Sherrone Moore currently owns pledges from three prospects. Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot four-star quarterback Carter Smith headlines as the No. 199 overall recruit and No. 15 signal-caller in the cycle.

“Something about the visit connected with me and that was one thing I have been looking for and it happened,” Smith told On3 upon his commitment in November. “The people in the building, the facilities, the school, the stadium being full all hit me at Michigan. When I was standing on the ‘M’ in the middle of the field in pre-game, it really hit me. I stood there, took it all in, spun around and I started to feel Michigan could be the place for me.”

Smith is currently flanked by Howell (Mich.) four-star defensive lineman Bobby Kanka and Alcoa (Tenn.) three-star tight end Eli Owens. Kanka is a top-300 recruit and No. 23 player at his position, while Owens checks in as a top-15 player in Tennessee.
