Michigan will be heading to the Big Ten championship, wrapping up in the East on Saturday. Possibly more important to them though, another win against Ohio State is in the record books, getting their first at Ohio Stadium since 2000. It’s the first on the road for head coach Jim Harbaugh — firmly taking control of the rivalry.

To celebrate the win, Wolverine players decided to have some fun at midfield. Taking a Michigan flag to the 50-yard line, they planted it right in the middle of the midfield logo. Players then got together for a picture as the celebrations were on for the Victors in Columbus.

While last season’s win was a momentous one for Michigan, this one had to feel just as good. All offseason, the discussion was over whether or not the Wolverines could do it two years in a row or beat Ohio State on the road.

Harbaugh’s squad proved they are here to stay in the Big Ten, making back-to-back conference championships thanks to wins over the Buckeyes. Michigan will be favored in the game as well, no matter who comes out of the Big Ten West.

Mike Sainristil shares plan to plant Michigan flag

Michigan senior Mike Sainristil broke down why he planted his team’s flag on the center of the field during a press appearance after beating Ohio State in The Game. The win was a huge one for the Wolverines, securing a Big Ten championship appearance. To add insult to injury for their rivals, Sainristil carried the Michigan flag to the Ohio State “Block O” at midfield and planted it in the field while celebrating their victory.

Sainristill explained this is something that has been in the works for awhile, having the moment planned out since January.

“Was thinking about [doing] that since January,” explained Sainristil. “Just coming down here and having the opportunity to win this game at this stadium — first time since 2000. Even last year, the only thing I was thinking about was fans rushing the field. This year I was thinking about planting the flag. And just speaking it into existence. Just being able to do that feels great. I just think Coach Harbaugh’s doing a great job of helping us execute when this game comes about and just preparing us for this moment.”
