Rumors swirled this week about Jim Harbaugh’s reported interest in heading back to the NFL. Another team could be in the mix.

The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, who broke the initial Harbaugh story, talked Wednesday about Harbaugh’s situation on The Rich Eisen Show. In his story on Tuesday, Feldman mentioned the Las Vegas Raiders as a potential landing spot.

But on Wednesday, Feldman dropped another name: the Chicago Bears.

“He has accomplished a lot in the past year,” Feldman said. “And if he really wanted to go back to the NFL, this might be an ideal situation. In addition, there’s another franchise that he knows very well that he has some, from what I’m told, very positive feelings toward people there, and that’s in Chicago with the Bears.

“So I think it’s not just the the timing of what Jim Harbaugh’s accomplished, if he’s tempted by going back to the NFL. But it’s also some of the potential fits that are out there that I think might be very tough for him to pass up.”

Harbaugh has deep ties to the Bears. They drafted him 26th overall in the 1987 NFL Draft and he played in Chicago from 1987-93. His name has come up in past Bears coaching searches, but they haven’t moved on from their current coach yet.

Matt Nagy has been the Bears’ headman since 2018 and won NFL Coach of the Year honors that year. Since then, it’s been a rough go for Chicago. The Bears went 8-8 the last two years and are 6-10 this season. As questions have risen about Nagy’s job status, he said he hasn’t been told about an impending firing.

Report: Jim Harbaugh could consider to return to the NFL

Could Jim Harbaugh head back to the NFL? A new report suggests it’s a possibility.

The Athletic and FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman reported Tuesday that Harbaugh “might be tempted” to leave Michigan and head back to the NFL.

“I’d always heard from people who know him well that they thought at some point he was going to go back to the NFL,” Feldman wrote. “I didn’t think he would leave Michigan knowing he’d never won the game that matters most there (against Ohio State), but now he’s done that and won the Big Ten, it feels like the timing might be right.”

Feldman lists the Las Vegas Raiders as a potential destination. Harbaugh got his coaching start with the Raiders in 2002 as the quarterbacks coach. Rich Bisaccia is serving as Las Vegas’ interim head coach after Jon Gruden resigned earlier this year. It’s unclear if the Raiders are going to retain Bisaccia or not.
