Isaac Asuma, a three-star point guard in the 2024 class, has committed to Minnesota.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound junior out of Mountain Iron (Minn.) Cherry chose the in-state Gophers over offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Xavier, Nebraska, and others.

Asuma is the first prospect in the 2024 class to commit to Ben Johnson and Minnesota. Four-star guard Cameron Christie (No. 120) is the Gophers’ lone signee in the class of 2023 after losing the commitment of Dennis Evans, a four-star seven-foot center.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Asuma ranks as the No. 179 overall prospect in the country. The On3 Industry Ranking is the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies (ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals, On3). On3’s evaluators are higher on Asuma, ranking him No. 132 in the class.

Asuma on his commitment to Minnesota

“What made me choose Minnesota was the coaching staff and my relationship with them, knowing they’ll make me a better person and basketball player,” Asuma said to On3. “I think they have a great vision for the future of the program. I also chose them because my family would be able to make it to a lot of games and support me.”

What type of player is Minnesota getting in Isaac Asuma, in his own words?

“I am a steady guard who can do a little bit of everything. My biggest strength is my playmaking ability. I can shoot the three, handle the ball and set my teammates up.”

Asuma has a message for Gopher fans.

“I’m staying home, Gophers nation here I come!”
