Four-star quarterback Michael Van Buren of Bowie (MD) St. Frances Academy announced his commitment to Mississippi State Sunday evening.

The 6-foot-0, 185 pounder was previously committed to Oregon.

“Just talking with Coach Lebby and Coach Holecheck hearing their vision for the future of Mississippi state really intrigued me. They broke down to me how I was going to be devolved on a day to day basis which was a big thing for me. That led me to think that this is the right place for me.”

His relationship with the coaching staff and their plan for him played a role in his decision as well.

“I mainly talk with coach Lebby and coach Holecheck (The QB coach) which I had a good relationship with them both at OU. They couldn’t stress to me enough how I’m the guy they want and how much they believe in me being able to turn the program around and take them back to the top! They also have a great track record of developing QBs and putting up big time numbers, which also caught my eye.”

The Old Line State quarterback joins coach Jeff Lebby and the Bulldogs’ top 40 2024 class. He is accompanied by four-star wide receiver JJ Harrell, three-star safety Tyler Woodard, and others.
