Mississippi State Head Coach Zach Arnett - Arkansas Game Week (1)

Mississippi State running back Jo’Quavious Marks appears to have injured his hamstring during the first half of Saturday’s matchup against Arkansas.

After scoring the Bulldogs’ opening touchdown of the game, Marks picked himself off the ground before noticeably favoring his left hamstring. He was put under the MSU medical tent for further evaluation before an update was provided by the ESPN broadcast.

“He’s in the tent, and medical staff is actually looking at video outside of the tent to try and diagnose what happened,” ESPN sideline reporter Quint Kessenich said at the 12:35 mark of the second quarter. “Now, he has been dealing with an ankle injury for about a month. He wears basically a ski boot on his left ankle. This is a hamstring. He has 1,000 rush yards and 1,000 receiving yards [during his career].”

Marks has been thriving out of the Mississippi State backfield this season, earning himself 80 carries for 458 yards and four touchdowns to lead his team in all three categories coming into Saturday’s conference matchup.

A fourth-year offensive weapon for the Bulldogs, Marks is well on his way to eclipsing his yearly career totals for the Bulldogs. He’s less than 40 carries and 100 yards away from this being the most productive season of his collegiate career. He’ll need five more touchdowns to best his single-season best.

As Kessenich mentioned during the broadcast, Marks has amassed 1,768 rushing yards and 1,194 receiving yards across 567 career touches.

Will Rogers out vs. Arkansas with injury, Mike Wright to start

A couple of weeks ago, starting Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers went down with an arm injury vs. Western Michigan. Now, he’s been declared OUT for the Bulldogs’ game against Arkansas today.

Instead, Vanderbilt transfer Mike Wright will get his first start with MSU and will break Rogers’ streak of 38 consecutive starts, according to ESPN’s Chris Low. He broke the news that Rogers is out and Wright is in for today’s game. Here is the report that Low tweeted out

“Mike Wright will make his first start for Mississippi State at QB on Saturday against Arkansas, as sources tell ESPN that starter Will Rogers will miss the game with an injured shoulder. Rogers had started 38 consecutive games for the Bulldogs, who were off last week.”

So the lingering arm issue will keep Rogers sidelined vs. Arkansas. It’s Mike Wright’s time.
