Mississippi State guard Shakeel Moore will enter the NCAA transfer portal while keeping open his option to return to the Bulldogs, according to a report from On3’s Jamie Shaw.

Moore is coming off a season in which he averaged 7.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest. His scoring was down from his averages as a sophomore and junior, though he shot a career-best 36.3% from the 3-point line during the 2023-24 campaign.

A senior, Moore will have one year of eligibility left as he seeks a new program.

He’s got some considerable experience under his belt at this point. Moore has played in 124 career games, while starting in 68 of them.

He began his career at NC State, where he spent one season before hitting the transfer portal and heading to Mississippi State. Moore averaged 6.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game while with the Wolfpack.

In his career, Shakeel Moore has already topped the 1,000-point mark as a scorer.

Josh Hubbard, Cameron Matthews returning to MSU

While Shakeel Moore will look to head elsewhere this offseason, potentially, two other key pieces from the 2023-24 squad have announced they will return.

Mississippi State’s star point guard Josh Hubbard pledged his loyalty to the program on social media, revealing that he intends to remain in Starkville, MS, after this year.

“Let’s run it back Starkvegas, year 2 loading…,” said Hubbard via X.

Hubbard scored a team-high 17.1 points per game this season, having a tremendous campaign. He’ll be joined in his return by forward Cameron Matthews, who averaged 9.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game in the frontcourt.

“We’ve got more memories to make and more goals to achieve,” Matthews wrote in a return announcement. “I’m excited to announce that I’ll be wearing the Maroon and White one more time in 2024-2025. I’m appreciative to Coach Jans and our staff for the lessons they’ve taught me and for trusting me to be a leader. I work hard every day to be the best player I can be and can’t wait for what’s in store next season. Hail State, Mook.”
