A former Mississippi State assistant is getting their chance at calling plays next season, but it won’t be for the Bulldogs. According to college football insider Pete Thamel, Mississippi State assistant Mason Miller is headed to Tarleton State to take over as their offensive coordinator and play caller.

“Tarleton State is set to hire former Mississippi State assistant Mason Miller as the offensive coordinator and play caller. Miller was OL coach/run game coordinator at MSU and has coached OL at Washington State and Nevada. He’s a former Tarleton OC (2014-16),” said Thamel via Twitter.

This will be Miller’s second run as offensive coordinator for Tarleton State. During his previous run with the Texans, the former Mississippi State assistant had one of the best offenses in the nation. In his 2014 season as offensive coordinator, Miller’s offense ranked third in the country in total offense while averaging an impressive 43 points and 534 yards per contest.

Former Georgia tight end Ryland Goede commits to Mississippi State

Former Georgia tight end Ryland Goede has chosen Mississippi State as his newest destination via the NCAA Transfer Portal. In a rare two-for-one commitment decision, he announced on Monday that he was bringing his fiancée Alexa Fortin to the new SEC location as well — a former Georgia volleyball player who will commit to Mississippi State as well.

The pair announced their decision on Twitter with a picture of the couple showing off her engagement ring while they wore Mississippi State uniforms.

Goede, a Georgia native, played high school football at Kennesaw Mountain, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 9 tight end recruit in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
