Mississippi State defensive back Trent Singleton has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned.

Singleton spent two seasons with the Mississippi State program, although he didn’t appear in a game over those two years.

He signed with the Bulldogs as a three-star recruit and the No. 29 prospect in the country in the class of 2022, according to the On3 Industry rankings.

Trent Singleton came to Mississippi State after attending Raymond High School where he played under head coach Robert Jacobs.

In addition to playing defensive back, he also played quarterback in high school. As a senior, he completed 42 of 69 passes for 537 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 528 yards and 11 scores.

Singleton is known for his speed as he ran the 100m, 200m and relays with his high school track team, winning a state title.

Now that he is leaving Mississippi State, he will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Coming out of high school, he chose the Bulldogs over offers from Memphis, Tulane and others.

Mississippi State added commitment from Miami (OH) running back Rashad Amos

While Trent Singleton left Mississippi State to enter the transfer portal on Tuesday, the portal has been good to the Bulldogs in recent days.

Mississippi State landed a commitment from Miami (Ohio) running back Rashad Amos over the weekend.

The former South Carolina transfer played in 13 games with the Gamecocks but had a breakout year in 2023 with the RedHawks. The 6-foot-2, 234-pound running back rushed for 1,075 yards and 13 touchdowns. He ranked third in the Mid-American Conference in rushing yards and second in rushing touchdowns.

Amos is the No. 2 available running back currently in the portal, according to the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings. The third-team All-MAC selection fills a position of need for the Bulldogs. Jo’Quavious “Woody” Marks transferred during the winter portal window, landing at USC. Marks tallied 3,108 scrimmage yards and 27 touchdowns in four seasons at Mississippi State.

Landing Amos is a major offseason addition for Jeff Lebby. The first-year head coach now has a proven running back in the backfield, especially with the health of sophomore back Seth Davis unclear at the moment. The Miami (Ohio) transfer has 230 career games and previous experience in the SEC.

“As we sit here today, we’ve got to continue to get better,” Lebby previously said. “We don’t have a ton of production in that room.”
