Portsmouth (Va.) Oscar Smith three-star cornerback Asaad Brown has committed to NC State. He announced the news on Twitter.

Brown is the No. 654 overall prospect and No. 58 cornerback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 14 player in Virginia.

“NC State made Asaad Brown a priority for a long time,” The Wolfpacker’s Ethan McDowell said following Brown’s commitment. “This commitment is the product of a consistent effort from nickels coach Freddie Aughtry-Lindsay and the rest of the staff. Staying close to home was a significant factor in his recruitment, and the Wolfpack gave him the chance to do so.

“The Pack knocked his visit in March out of the park. NC State jumped up into the lead in his recruitment, and Brown decided he was ready to shut things down Wednesday. This is a really solid commitment to kick off what could be another great defensive back class for the Wolfpack.”

Prior to his commitment, Brown had visited NC State three times with the most recent visit coming in early March.

“I really like what they have going on at NC State as always,” Brown told On3 following the visit. “I’ve had a relationship with them about as long as I’ve had with any other school, so I definitely wanted to get back out there.

“It was organized, number one. And then, again, you couldn’t tell the ones from the threes. Everybody was getting coached up, so I could definitely see the development there.”

Brown is the third commitment in NC State’s 2024 recruiting class that ranks No. 33 in the country and No. 8 in the ACC. The Wolfpack’s other two commitments are Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep three-star quarterback Cedrick Bailey Jr. and Huntington (W.V.) Cabell Midland three-star linebacker Cannon Lewis.

The Wolfpack wrapped up the 2023 recruiting cycle with 18 signees, the No. 35 class in the country and No. 6 class in the ACC.

Brown currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $35K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
