Georgetown transfer Dontrez Styles is returning back to his home state. Styles has committed to NC State after entering the transfer portal earlier this month.

The North Carolina native averaged 12.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game this past season while starting all 32 games for the Hoyas.

Styles started his career in the ACC at North Carolina, before transferring to Georgetown after two seasons. He played in 45 total games during his two seasons with the Tar Heels.

Styles scored in double figures in 22 of 32 games during his first and only season with the Hoyas. He shot 43 percent from the field, nearly 37 percent from 3-point range and 77.6 percent from the free throw line.

He was ranked as the No. 62 overall player in the country in the class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry rankings. He attended Kinston High School in North Carolina and was named first-team all-state as a senior, before signing with UNC.

As a freshman in 2021-22, Dontrez Styles appeared in 30 games, averaging 2 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. He played a key role in North Carolina’s upset of No. 1 seed Baylor in the NCAA Tournament that season, playing a season-high 24 minutes 57 seconds. He set season highs in points (9), field goals (4) and steals (2) that afternoon.

In 2022-23, Styles had a lesser role for the Tar Heels, despite being a year older. He played in 15 games, averaging 1.4 points and 0.9 rebounds per game.

Across two seasons at North Carolina, Styles averaged 1.8 points and 1.3 rebounds per game on 41.9 percent shooting from the field.

Styles then entered the transfer portal, before ending up at Georgetown.

While Styles had a strong season at Georgetown, overall the Hoyas did not. They went 9-23 (2-18) last season, including an 18-point loss to Providence in the Big East tournament as Georgetown’s season came to an end.

As for NC State, the Wolfpack are coming off of an incredible run to end the 2023-24 season.

NC State was the No. 10 seed in the ACC Tournament and had no shot of reaching the Big Dance before beating Louisville, Syracuse, Duke, Virginia and North Carolina over a five-game stretch to win the ACC tournament title.

The run for the Wolfpack didn’t stop there, though. They continued to have success in the NCAA Tournament, advancing all the way to the Final Four, before falling to Purdue in a national semifinal game.
