Logan (Iowa) Logan-Magnolia four-star offensive lineman Grant Brix planned to have his recruitment over months ago.

The country’s No. 2 interior lineman in the On300 rankings had planned to make his decision by August, but the closer he got, the more he felt he needed to wait. His patience won out, and one school became the clear fit in his mind. That program was Nebraska. And he has now added his name to the Huskers’ commit list.

“In the end, I felt really good about Nebraska,” he told On3. “I just stayed patient. On different days, I would think more about Nebraska, Oklahoma or Kansas State. I waited until I woke up thinking about the same school every day and that happened a couple of weeks ago with Nebraska.”

Brix was largely down to the Sooners and Huskers over the past few months. Even as he felt more sure about the program in Lincoln, he wanted to take one last visit to Oklahoma to see if it changed his mind. But he knew he wanted to play for Matt Rhule.

“The biggest part of my decision was my belief in the coaching staff at Nebraska,” he added. “I believe in Coach Matt Rhule. He is getting the program back to where it wants to be. Along with my belief in Coach Rhule, I believe I can get developed by Coach Raiola and Coach Campbell (strength coach). The recruiting class coming in is strong too, and I have some great relationships with those guys.”

Brix loves the culture that Rhule is building at Nebraska

Brix has been to Lincoln more than a half dozen times. And each visit was better than the last. The more time he spent around the players and coaching staff, the more he saw what kind of culture Rhule is creating, and that’s who he wants to play for.

“He knows how to lead, he is a great coach and he is going to turn Nebraska around,” Brix said. “He is a guy I want to follow and play for. As soon as he got the job, I was one of his first stops when he got on the road. It didn’t really impact my decision, but he made me a priority and that did mean something.”

Brix is also eager to be coached by offensive line coach Donovan Raiola, an NFL veteran who he believes can get him where he wants to go.

“We have been talking since Coach Rhule got the job, and we have a good relationship,” he said. “He is a great coach, he knows the offensive line and he has been around some great coaches. I really feel he can help me develop with his knowledge and his experience. That was a big positive for me.

… I am just really excited about the future. I can’t wait to get there and be a part of what Coach Rhule is building at Nebraska.”
