Nebraska has already scored a pair of commitments this week before its spring game weekend has even kicked off. Matt Rhule and the Cornhuskers are welcoming an impressive list of prospects to Lincoln for what could be a major recruiting swing.

Headlining that list is the Big Ten program’s top target at quarterback this cycle, Orange (Calif.) Lutheran four-star TJ Lateef. The 6-foot-1.5, 185-pounder returned to Lincoln on Friday to begin his first official visit.

“I just can’t wait to get out there,” Lateef told On3 earlier this week. “I’m just looking to see the environment and how much their fans pour into their football team and I just can’t wait to see them compete at the spring game. I just feel the want for me to go there by the coaches. I feel loved by the staff and how much they communicate with me and my family.”

Lateef is yet to set a top schools list or hint towards a commitment, but things look to be pointing in the direction of Nebraska. The Huskers are currently trending for his pledge in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) and are the only program to have an OV set with the signal-caller so far.

Auburn, Arizona State and Colorado are among the other schools in the mix for the blue-chipper. According to On3 VP of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong, however, no team is making Lateef a bigger priority than Nebraska.

“I think the first guy you look at is TJ Lateef. He’s taking his official visit, he is the top target on the board for Matt Rhule and the Huskers. No program is recruiting him harder,” Wiltfong said on the latest Wiltfong Whiparound. “With that, I think the Big Ten program has set the pace in this recruitment. Lateef also took a recent visit to Colorado that he enjoyed, but I think Colorado is all in on Julian Lewis right now, we’ll see what happens as they player quarterback dominoes going into the summer.”

“They want me there, I feel like that’s the main thing,” Lateef said. “Nebraska is high on my board I feel pretty good about them. I am not sure when I will commit yet. I feel like when it’s time, I will know.”

Lateef is the No. 283 overall prospect and No. 25 QB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 25 player in California.
