Lancaster (Texas) four-star running back Kewan Lacy has decommitted from Nebraska. He was committed to the Cornhuskers since June 26, when he chose them over Ole Miss, Arizona State, and Baylor.

Lacy is the No. 324 overall prospect and No. 26 RB in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 52 player in Texas.

“Dear Husker nation I want to thank you for the support and the opportunity to come play the sport I love at the University of Nebraska and thank you all the coaches for recruiting me and showing love with that being said I am decommitting and my recruitment is 100% open,” Lacy wrote.

Plenty of schools have continued their pursuit of Lacy, including the likes of Ole Miss, Florida and Alabama. He took an official visit to Oxford at the end of July. Running backs coach Kevin Smith is helping lead the charge for the Rebels, though head coach Lane Kiffin made use of Ole Miss’ bye week in October to head to Lancaster to visit Lacy.

“Coach (Kevin) Smith came from Miami to go over there so I’m just now getting to know all of the other coaches at Ole Miss,” Lacy told OM Spirit. “I like how they use their running backs. They talk about starting them young to which I like that.”

Lacy does not currently have an On3 NIL Valuation. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Nebraska still possesses top-25 recruiting class

While Matt Rhule and Co. are now down a blue-chip RB target, the Huskers still possess the No. 25 overall class in the nation, per the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking. The class features 25 commits, six of whom are four-stars.

Headlining the pledge list is Ainsworth (Neb.) tight end Carter Nelson, the No. 59 prospect and No. 5 TE in the cycle. He’s joined at the top by Waipahu (Hawaii) interior offensive lineman Preston Taumua, Altair (Texas) Rice Consolidated safety Roger Gradney and Bay City (Texas) defensive lineman Carlon Jones.

The Huskers’ class ranks No. 7 in the Big Ten and remains ahead of the likes of Illinois, Iowa, Northwestern, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
