Is Nebraska in Position to Attack the Portal in Final Stretch of Window? | Husker Portal Update

Former Oregon running back Dante Dowdell has made his decision out of the NCAA transfer portal, committing to play for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. A big win for head coach Matt Rhule, adding to the offensive weapons in Lincoln.

Dowdell appeared in just six games for Oregon this season, not getting too many touches when actually on the field. He had 17 carries for 90 yards, averaging over 5.0 YPC. A touchdown did come in the blowout win against Portland State, being the highlight of the running back’s year.

Mississippi State was thought to be in the running for Dowdell as well, being a potential return to home. However, Nebraska was able to win the battle against Jeff Lebby. Now, the Cornhuskers will feel confident in the run game heading into the 2024 season.

Dowdell played high school football at Picayune (MS) Picayune Memorial, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 139 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
