Nebraska earned a tight win over Ohio State and Denim Dawson credited his teammates who stepped up for the occasion.

Juwan Gary missed the game, which caused a hole in the rebound department. However, Dawson picked up the slack, along with teammates Derrick Walker and Sam Griesel.

The three players combined for 25 rebounds, aiding the Huskers to a victory over Ohio State.

“We knew especially with Juwan out, we had to, you know, rebound as a team,” Dawson said. “And I feel like every game won or lost, the rebounds (are) a big key factor. So the whole team, really that was the big key and we locked into that and that held us to a victory.”

Dawson was asked about rebounding becoming the priority for him during the win.

“Yeah, and Juwan does, even today during the game, he did a perfect job helping me,” Dawson said. “You know, he told me what to do. Told me when to just … do what he was doing, just to get the little stuff and that’s how I ended up getting (them and) crashing, just getting a bunch of rebounds.”

In total, Dawson finished with seven points and eight rebounds. But his teammates stepped up to the challenge.

Griesel had 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists while Walker had eight points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Nebraska wins a sloppy game in the end

Ohio State started the game just 1-of-11 from the field and had three points through the game’s first seven minutes. Yet Nebraska only led 8-3 and didn’t reach double figures until a jumper by C.J. Wilcher with 10:17 left in the half.

Nebraska shot 30% with zero assists in the first half, while the Buckeyes scored 26.7%. The teams combined to go 3-of-21 from behind the arc, with NU missing 12 of its 14 tries from 3-point range.

Dawson started his first game as a Husker in place of Gary and he and his teammates helped Nebraska get win No. 10.
