Former five-star Demond Demas raises Nebraska eyebrows with new Instagram bio

A few months after Nebraska offered junior college transfer and former five-star recruit Demond Demas, the transferring wide receiver has updated his Instagram bio to tag the Cornhusker football program’s account.

Demas’ account (@demas._1) now has an updated bio, part of which reads: “Ball Catcher @huskerfootball.” That link takes you to the Nebraska football Instagram account. But the interesting part is that Demas is not committed to Nebraska yet and hasn’t made any announcement of the sort.

Contact between Nebraska and Demas goes back a few months as the Huskers actually offered him a scholarship back in mid-October as they looked to add more playmakers to their 2024 recruiting class. Now, with the updated bio on his Instagram page, perhaps Matt Rhule and staff are close to closing the deal.

As a prospect, Demas has experienced a long and somewhat bumpy path to getting back in the Division I ranks. He began his college career at Texas A&M, where he redshirted in 2020 but popped in his first season on the field in 2021, catching 15 passes for 235 yards. That would be it for his time in College Station, though.

The March following his redshirt freshman season, Demas was dismissed from the program as result of an arrest. On July 6, Demas pled guilty in Brazos County, Texas, to a third-degree felony charge of violating a bond and a protective order twice within a 12-month period, according to Brazos County Court Records. He also pled guilty to a Class A misdemeanor charge of family violence assault that causes bodily injury. In total, Demas was sentenced to five years of probation with deferred adjudication.

With his shot at the SEC level in the rearview, Demas moved on to Garden City Community College, where he again sat in 2022 before putting on a good enough show this past season to regain some power conference attention. In eight games this fall with the Broncbusters, Demas recorded 29 catches 329 yards and one touchdown.

Now, Demas isn’t quite ranked as a JUCO prospect yet, but he was a five-star recruit in the 2020 class coming out of Tomball High School in Houston, TX. He was tabbed as the nation’s No. 23 prospect and No. 2 wide receiver that cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
