Plenty of transfers will occur across college softball this offseason. None will be bigger than Jordy Bahl’s decision to return home. Nebraska is getting an incredible pitcher who is fresh off historic success with the Oklahoma Sooners. Expectations are already being set high before a practice ever takes place.

Bahl was asked what her goals are over the next two seasons. Her answer was a simple one, saying all Nebraska can do it go out there and give it everything they have. As she and other members of the Oklahoma team discussed following their national championship, their faith carried them throughout the process.

Just because she is transferring does not mean Bahl will change her mindset. Going out there and playing hard is the goal, hoping to work toward a result she already believes has been determined.

“The goal is to leave everything out there and see what happens,” Bahl said. “I’m a firm believer that the end is already written and with that, you just show up every day and give everything you have. It’s in the Lord’s hands.”

There is one thing everyone surrounding the Nebraska program will be thinking about though, especially with Bahl on the roster. She is a two-time Women’s College World Series champion, doing so in back-to-back seasons in Norman.

Maybe Nebraska is next up with Bahl in the circle. You would feel pretty good about your chances of going deep too if you had a pitcher post a 21-1 record with a 1.02 ERA while striking out 203 batters over 137 innings pitched.

“It would be so cool to see Nebraska in the College World Series,” Bahl said. “Just make the run that I believe this team can make.”

Nebraska has plenty of history in the Women’s College World Series but none of it is recent. You have to go back a decade to find their last appearance in 2013. Just once have they advanced to play for the national championship, falling to runner-up back in 1985.

Progress has been made in recent years, making the NCAA Tournament the past two seasons. However, neither resulted in advancing to the Super Regionals.

Somebody like Bahl changes the dynamic. No matter what team the Cornhuskers go up against, she will likely be the best pitcher on the field. When you have that type of player, it’s easy to dream of a Women’s College World Series run.
