Nebraska transfer forward Josiah Allick won’t take the court this summer during the team’s summer trip to Spain as he recovers from his ankle injury. While he will miss out on playing in a fun offseason event, his progress towards the season is something to be happy about.

“It’s been going well,” Allick said ahead of the trip to the media. “Obviously this is my second go-around. I got my other ankle done last year. Definitely in a good place right now especially just on like the trajectory I’m on. I haven’t had any hiccups. Just been able to kind of continue to progress. They’ve been doing a great job just monitoring me. Obviously I’ve gotten very frustrated with some of the pace we’ve been moving at. But I just gotta keep that trust in the medical staff and what they have planned for me and just like the rehab and progression that our strength coach Kurt and trainer Andrew have put in place for me. But so far I’ve been feeling really good with everything so definitely feel optimistic.”

Allick transferred in from New Mexico, where he started all 34 games last season for the Lobos. He averaged 8.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

The scoring marked a drop from his averages at UMKC, where he scored 15.0 points per game as a sophomore and 12.9 points per game as a junior.

He is not the only player who is missing the tournament. Juwan Gary, Blaise Keita and Sam Hoiberg will all not play during the overseas trip.

Head coach Fred Hoiberg provided an update on Keita’s injury recovery during Monday’s media availability.

“I do feel good that he will be back,” Hoiberg said. “We don’t play ’til November and we start essentially with our training camp September 27, I believe, is the first day of official practice. So we’ve got some time with Blaise. We want to get him to a point where this doesn’t keep reoccurring, the pain in the ankle. Some days are better than others for him. We’re trying to push him through the pain threshold on certain days.

“The biggest thing right now is getting the mobility back in his ankle. He’s probably about where he should be right now expected. Josiah is way ahead of where he should be right now. It’s just making sure we’re patient. Blaise gave us some great minutes at the end of the year, and obviously we missed him in a big way the last game of the year, so it’s important to continue to get him on track and hopefully get them healthy for the start of this season.”
