Matt Rhule provides update on Teddy Prochazka’s injury

Life as a football player has been brutal for Nebraska’s mammoth offensive lineman, Teddy Prochazka. He has suffered season-ending injuries in back-to-back years for the Huskers and was finally ready to shine in fall camp and hopefully lock up a starting spot for this season… when he suffered yet another injury.

When meeting with media to recap the week of practice, Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule had to break the tough news that Prochazka had been injured yet again and will have to miss some time.

“Yeah Teddy got banged up again, so Teddy’s out for a little while right now,” Rhule told reporters. “Nothing long term, but he’s banged up unfortunately. So, you know, he’ll be right, we think he’ll be ready for the first game. But, you know, so we’re working Turner (Corcoran), working Gunnar (Gottula), working all those guys on the O-line, and then we’re gonna get Teddy back as soon as possible.”

It sucks for Teddy Prochazka, who will now likely have to return to the lineup as a backup since the other guys are going to get so many more reps this fall while he’s out. It’s just a bummer, man.

“I love Teddy and I know what he’s done. So ever since I’ve been here, Turner’s been left tackle with the ones every day since I’ve been here. So that’s what I know, right. So I just feel bad for Teddy, because he’s such a wonderful young man and wonderful teammate. And he was excited to get out there and get going.”

But Rhule has a lesson from the parent of another injured player to share to help inspire Prochazka through this latest injury.

“But you know what, I remember when Brodie got hurt and the Tagaloa family flew out here. I was sitting down with his father and mother and his father was talking. He told me something that impacted me. You know, you learn a lot from listening to people and parents. His father was talking to Brodie about embracing the delay. You know, sometimes there’s a delay in what we want and you have to embrace it. It’s really good for me to hear.”

Brodie Tagaloa was just recently ruled out for the entire season after sustaining major injuries as part of an automobile accident. Matt Rhule is hoping Prochazka can adopt the attitude of Tagaloa’s father as he deals with another unfair injury setback. Meanwhile, there are plenty of options to plug the gap while he’s out.

“So I think Teddy is going to come back better than ever. But yeah, Turner is an excellent player and we have some young O-linemen that are showing up, like (Sam) Sledge, Gottula was here in the spring. But those young guys, they’re going to be good players it was Grant Seagren walked on, he’s a scholarship type player. So we got some guys that are going to help us.”
