After what we now know will be his final game as head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Mickey Joseph expresses love for Nebraska players and staff following their win vs. the Iowa Hawkeyes.

“I wanna take my hat off to these players, to these coaches, Trev Alberts, our director, and our administration for believing in me,” said Joseph. “This was early when this happened, taking this team over. One thing I say is that they fought. They fought every Saturday they came out. Nobody can deny that. Because that’s what we asked them, and that’s what we expected out of them. You’re talking about a high-character group. I love them for that; I love these coaches for that. And I wouldn’t trade for the world. They finished something that they started, and that’s what we asked them to do.”

Nebraska ended their head coaching search on Saturday after officially announcing that they would be hiring former Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule to run the program. Still, Joseph did what he could in the situation that he was given. Joseph took over as the head coach after former head coach Scott Frost was let go following a 1-2 start to the season. The former receivers coach went on to go 3-6. Joseph saved his best for last in his final game at the helm beating Iowa and crushing their dreams of going to the Big Ten championship game.

Nebraska officially announces Matt Rhule as next Cornhuskers football coach

Rumors ran rampant in recent weeks, but the Cornhuskers officially announced Rhule as their next head coach on Saturday. Afterwards, the program released a statement, including quotes from Nebraska Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Trev Alberts, along with Rhule himself.

“It is a privilege to welcome Coach Matt Rhule, his wife Julie, and their family to Nebraska,” Alberts said, per Nebraska. “Coach Rhule has created a winning culture throughout his coaching career, and he will provide great leadership for the young men in our football program.

“Matt is detail-oriented, his teams are disciplined and play a physical brand of football. Matt also has the personality and relationship-building skills to build a great staff and excel in recruiting.”

Continuing, Rhule stated that it’s a “tremendous honor” to take over the Cornhuskers, and it’s obvious he values the opportunity.

“It is a tremendous honor to be chosen to lead the Nebraska Football program,” Rhule added, via Nebraska. “When you think of great, tradition-rich programs in college football Nebraska is right at the top of the list.  The fan base is second to none, and I consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to coach in Memorial Stadium on Tom Osborne Field.

“My family and I are so grateful to become a part of the Husker Family, and we can’t wait to get started.”

The excitement is peaking and Matt Rhule will be ready to roll when he gets to Nebraska. The Conrhuskers finally have their man, and the future is bright for Nebraska.
