Could a position change be on the horizon for Tommi Hill at Nebraska? Based on pregame warmups Friday night, it seems like a possibility.

Hill, who started the Cornhuskers’ first four games at cornerback, worked out with the wide receivers prior to the Friday night game against Rutgers, according to HuskerOnline’s Sean Callahan. He played wide receiver at times in high school, according to the Omaha World-Herald’s Evan Bland, totaling 85 catches for 1,586 yards and 24 touchdowns at Edgewater High School in Florida.

Hill didn’t start last week’s game against Indiana, but has 17 total tackles in his first season with the Cornhuskers. He started his career with Arizona State last season before arriving in Lincoln via the transfer portal.

The timing of Hill’s potential switch is interesting. Running back Rahmir Johnson and wide receiver Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda didn’t make the trip to Rutgers due to injury, according to 247Sports’ Brian Christopherson. Hill will wear No. 2 on offense Friday night.

Nebraska struck gold at wide receiver in the portal this offseason, bringing in Trey Palmer from LSU, where he worked with Nebraska interim head coach Mickey Joseph as wide receivers coach. This year, Palmer leads the Cornhuskers with 480 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Mark Whipple expresses frustration with Nebraska offense, hilariously describes his approach to coaching

During Nebraska’s victory over Indiana last week, offensive coordinator Mark Whipple and quarterback Casey Thompson were seen having a heated conversation following a pivotal third-down sack. Frustrations were mounting about the offense, especially as the Cornhuskers and Hoosiers were tied 7-7 at the time.

That’s when Whipple knew he had to take a different approach, and he summed it up candidly in his Tuesday press conference.

“I guess in my history, when I walk around being a nice guy, it just doesn’t work as well as when I’m a dick,” Whipple said. “I don’t know why. And that’s just what I told the kids on Monday. I said, ‘Look, man. Just when I have something across my rear end, we just play better,’ and that’s really what it was like at halftime.”

Whipple’s message must have gotten through considering Nebraska came away with a 35-21 win over Indiana and Thompson got back on track after Chubba Purdy came in for a sequence. Thompson finished with 270 yards on 18-of-27 passing and two touchdowns on the afternoon.
