Casey Thompson was one of the more discussed quarterbacks this offseason, making the move from Texas to Nebraska. Since then, the two programs have been compared in the media, with questions even being asked to Thompson.

Recently, he was asked to compare the skill position depth and when he gave a favorable Cornhusker answer, it may have rubbed some Longhorn people the wrong way. Now, Thompson does not want to be asked any more questions about Texas.

At the end of his press conference on Tuesday, he asked the media to refrain from asking about the Longhorns for the rest of the season.

Thompson said his sole focus is on Nebraska and winning games in Lincoln. While his answer was never meant as a shot at Texas and he still respects everybody involved with the program, he wants to make sure the Cornhuskers are at the front of his mind in press conferences.

Casey Thompson requests no more Texas questions

“Moving forward from here on out, I don’t really want to be asked questions about Texas because I am trying to focus on Nebraska and moving forward with this team,” said Thompson. “I’m always trying to encourage the players we have here. But I was asked a question last week about how does the skill depth here compare to at Texas. And I said ‘we have more depth.’ A lot of the Texas fans and media, of course, took it to say ‘Casey Thompson said the skill depth at Texas wasn’t very good.’

“I never said anything like that. I don’t want to stir the pot about anything and I am not trying to go down that path… I wish them the best of luck. I have a lot of respect for Coach Sark and that team. They’ve always had talent. Talent’s never really been an issue. They have a really good team, really good coach.”

Former Texas quarterback still close with players in Austin

Thompson went on to say he’s still close with a few players on the Texas roster. After the heartbreaking loss to Northwestern in Dublin, a few of them reached out to check in on the quarterback. He doubled down saying he respected the Longhorn players — even a few of their skill position guys.

“I am very close with those guys over at Texas and I want to say I wish them the best of luck this season. I’m still close with a lot of players and actually, I got a lot of texts and calls from the players after the game last week. They were watching. DeMarvion Overshown, their starting MIKE linebacker, I still keep in touch with Bijan Robinson. Roschon Johnson is their team running back, team captain. Really good player. I just want to say, I respect them.”

A couple more names were discussed before Thompson closed by making his original point. Nebraska is his main focus and questions regarding Texas are not something he wants.

“Bijan Robinson is one of the best running backs, athletes I have ever been around. Xavier Worthy is one of the best route runners. Those guys have everything that’s going their way. But moving forward, I just want to talk about Nebraska football. The games that we have in hand and the issues we have here.”
