Nebraska Football Head Coach Matt Rhule Speaks To The Media After Huskers' Win Over Louisiana Tech

Saturday’s game between Nebraska and Louisiana Tech entered a lightning delay in the fourth quarter, according to Sean Callahan. Nebraska currently led the game 28-7 with 11:09 remaining in the fourth quarter. The delay began at 6:36 p.m. EST.

The Nebraska social media page also issued an announcement regarding the lightning.

“We are in a weather delay at Memorial Stadium. Due to lightning in the area, we are asking all guests to leave their seats. Please proceed to the concourse areas in an orderly fashion as directed by event staff. Stay tuned here for updates, thank you for your cooperation. GBR.”

Play eventually resumed following a brief delay. So, the good news is that they were able to finish the game on Saturday night.

Nebraska came away with the 28-14 victory, so the lightning delay did nothing to slow them down. They even outscored the Bulldogs 14-7 in the fourth quarter, so maybe the delay even helped them. But it’s always tough to gauge that kind of thing.

Nebraska got two big rushing performances, one from their quarterback, Heinrich Haarberg, and another from their running back, Anthony Grant. The tandem combined to pile up over 290 total rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground between them on Saturday night. Haarberg had 19 carries for 155 rushing yards and one touchdown. Grant had 22 carries for 135 rushing yards and one touchdown.

As a team, the Huskers pounded the rock on the ground all night long, rolling up 312 total rushing yards.

Haarberg started his second straight game on Saturday night in place of their injured quarterback, Jeff Sims.

The Cornhuskers led the game 28-7 with 11:13 remaining in the fourth quarter, but Louisiana Tech managed to cut the lead to 14 with 5:17 remaining. The Bulldogs got a decent performance from their quarterback, Jack Turner, who completed 64.3% of his passes for 292 yards, while tossing in one touchdown and one interception. They also got a great performance from receiver Cyrus Allen, who caught six balls for 102 yards and a touchdown.

With the win, Nebraska moved to 2-2 overall on the 2023 campaign. After losing their first two games this season, the Huskers have now won back-to-back games.

Up next, the Cornhuskers will face by far their stiffest test of the season, the No. 2 ranked Michigan Wolverines. That one will be played on Saturday, Sept. 30th. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. EST.
