Philadelphia (Penn.) Imhotep Institute three-star safety Rahmir Stewart is taking an official visit to Nebraska this weekend. It marks his first trip to see the Cornhuskers.

Stewart quickly felt at home in Lincoln. As a result, he committed to Nebraska on Saturday night over Rutgers and Texas A&M.

“This was super easy,” Stewart told On3. “As soon as I got here, it was a no-brainer for me.”

Stewart’s recruitment had been “pretty open to this point.” He wanted to save his final visits for his top schools, and the Cornhuskers got one of those slots.

A key reason the Pennsylvania native chose Nebraska is because of the coaching staff. The Cornhuskers have been recruiting him hard since Matt Rhule became head coach in late November.

“They jumped right on,” said Stewart, the No. 560 overall prospect and No. 52 safety in the 2023 On3 Consensus. “All the new staff came in 14 days ago, something like that. Then, (personnel/scouting staffer Omar Hales) called me. Then, (secondary) coach (Omar Cooper), he came up and he said, ‘We want you here. Trust us. Come see it and let’s make it happen.'”

Stewart felt like a priority to Nebraska’s new coaching staff

The 5-foot-10.5, 190-pound defensive back wanted to visit Nebraska to make sure he liked the program. But based on his relationship with the Cornhuskers’ coaches, he had a feeling “this was probably the place for me.”

“Just coming on the official visit and seeing everything laid out for me on the bed in the hotel room and stuff like that,” Stewart said about how Nebraska has made him feel like a priority on the trip.

Stewart has known Hales, a Philadelphia native, since he was young. Meanwhile, the three-star quickly bonded with his future position coach.

According to Stewart, it already feels like he and Cooper have known each other “a couple of years.” Cooper’s resume includes time with the Carolina Panthers, Baylor and Temple. At each of these stops, Rhule was the head coach.

“My (high school) coach, he asked (Cooper), ‘How long was your trip? What did you come down for?'” Stewart said. “He said, ‘I came down just for Rahmir.’ That played a factor for me.”

Regarding Rhule, Nebraska’s head man has already made a strong impression on Stewart. He is excited to play for him as the newest member of the Cornhuskers’ 2023 recruiting class.

“I personally love coach Rhule,” Stewart said. “I’ve been talking with him and my parents a lot. I think he’s going to be a great coach. I think he’s going to turn the program back to what it used to be.”
