Shortly after Jordy Bahl helped lead the Oklahoma Sooners to a national championship, she entered the NCAA transfer portal with the intention of returning to play closer to home. Now, Bahl, a Nebraska native, has committed to play for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, she announced on Thursday.

Getting Bahl is undoubtedly massive for Nebraska, as she has been a star since starting her career at Oklahoma in 2022. As a freshman, Bahl played a pivotal role in the Sooners’ second straight title. She made 33 appearances with 24 starts and 14 complete games, pitching to a 1.09 ERA in 141.1 innings with seven shutouts and one save.

In 2023, it was much of the same, if not even better, for Bahl as she won her second straight title and Oklahoma won its third in a row. In 147.1 innings, she had a 0.90 ERA in 38 appearances, with 22 starts, 12 complete games, eight shutouts and four saves.

In her two-year collegiate career, Bahl has struck out 397 batters opposed to 71 walks. She even hit .406 at the plate in 2023, with 13 hits, two doubles and eight runs batted in across 32 at-bats.

In 2023, Nebraska went 36-22 overall and 13-10 against Big Ten opponents. The Cornhuskers played in the Stillwater Regional, eventually falling to Oklahoma State.

Nebraska’s top two pitchers in 2023 were Sarah Harness and Courtney Wallace. Harness had a 3.40 ERA across 115.1 innings, which spanned across 31 appearances and 25 starts. Wallace pitched to a 3.50 ERA in 222.0 innings across 48 appearances and 30 starts.

The addition of Bahl is without a doubt a major boost to the Nebraska pitching staff.

Bahl returning to home state with transfer to Nebraska

After news broke about Bahl’s decision to transfer, Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso released a statement which only further showed that she is ready to get closer to her home and family.

Now, Bahl gets her chance to do just that.

“I have decided to return home and play the game I love, closer to the things that have made me who I am and that have always been more important to me than this game,” Bahl said in a statement when she announced her decision to leave Oklahoma. “The most important thing in my life after my faith, is my family. For the last 2 years, despite the amazing opportunities and accomplishments, my love for home and the acknowledgement of my foundation have grown. Being away from those things has been very tough.”

And beyond the college ranks, Bahl plans to waste no time in making an impact on the sport of softball all over the state.

“I am excited to return home and be Jordy Bahl the softball player, but more importantly the person,” she added. “I am excited thinking about growing the game that has provided me so many opportunities for growth, in the home state, a current overlooked state for girls in softball at all ages, and I am excited to finish the softball journey right where it began.”
