Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville four-star cornerback Bryce West‘s decision came down to Ohio State and Michigan.

In the end, West decided the best decision was to stay home as he announced his pledge to the Buckeyes Saturday afternoon during an official visit.

“For me as an Ohio kid I feel that Ohio State was going to have me well taken care of and the developmental piece here doesn’t get any better,” West told On3. “I have known if this decision for a while. I’ve been up there so many times so I was always like this is the place I need to be at because it fits me best.”

West is the No. 56 overall prospect and No. 6 cornerback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 2 player in Ohio.

On3 rates West higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2024 On300, he is the No. 52 overall prospect in the country.

“It’s a wonderful feeling to be staying home and playing for Ohio State because now we are bringing the pipeline back,” West said. “Me being one of the kids who is part of the pipeline is an amazing feeling. Being a Buckeye is truly a blessing because many kids don’t get put in these situations when they can play for a top 4 program for 3-4 years.”

West is the newest member of Ohio State’s top-two class

In addition to his official visit, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound recruit has been to Columbus multiple times. One of his more recent trips there was an unofficial visit on April 3.

“I love the recruiting class Ohio State is bringing in,” West said. “I know a lot of the players and it will be great to play with them. I love the coaching staff too. They are great guys and I feel I can really fit their scheme well.”

West is the latest talented recruit to commit to head coach Ryan Day and his staff. Ohio State’s 2024 recruiting class contains five top-100 players in West, Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, New Haven (Ind.) five-star wide receiver Mylan Graham, Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes four-star quarterback Air Noland and San Antonio (Texas) Veterans Memorial four-star running back James Peoples.

“They’re trying to build the best class in the class of 2024,” West said on May 10. “They’ve got some of the top guys in the country committed there right now like Mylan Graham and Jeremiah Smith. Those are guys you want to compete every day with in practice.”
