Ohio State safety Ja’Had Carter was injured in the first quarter against Penn State Saturday. He was helped off the field with a left leg injury.

The Syracuse transfer was making a block on a kick return following a Penn State field goal. The game was tied 3-3 with a little over five minutes to go in the first quarter.

Carter could not put weight on his left leg and was aided to the bench.

In five games this season (prior to Saturday), Carter had five total tackles and two solo tackles. Over the course of his career, Carter had 141 total tackles, 99 solo tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, five interceptions, seven pass deflections, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one defensive touchdown.

“I’m a versatile player,” Carter said in March, via Letterman Row. “I can play man, zone, come up and tackle. I feel like I can do it all, get off blocks, everything. So, in this defense … it’s a safety-led defense. I just feel like once I get rolling, it’s just gonna be back to my old self.”

Entering Week 7, Ohio State came in at No. 3 in the AP Top 25 and Penn State wasn’t far behind at No. 6. The game will not only have major implications in the Big Ten, but also have an impact on the College Football Playoff with the first rankings set to come out at the end of the month.

Kirk Herbstreit reveals how Ohio State fanbase impacts game

Kirk Herbstreit believed Ohio State faithful were going to make it difficult for Penn State to break through their glass ceiling with a victory on Saturday.

While the Nittany Lions believe it’s their best shot at beating the Buckeyes in myriad seasons, Herbstreit believed the Buckeyes crowd would be a gigantic factor, especially when it comes to the Penn State offensive operation.

“Tomorrow’s crowd will be a crowd, when Drew Allar steps to the line-of-scrimmage, he will not be able to hear,” Herbstreit said Friday, via The Pat McAfee Show. “Communication will be an issue. We can talk all about that. It’ll be a major problem and a challenge for them.”

Moreover, Herbstreit relented that not every home crowd for the Buckeyes is a raucous bunch, due to their lighter competition in past weeks, but expect Ohio State fans to be at their best against the Nittany Lions.
