The Ohio State Buckeyes saw their season end less than a week ago, losing to the Villanova Wildcats in the Round of 32. One of the biggest storylines immediately became the status of forward E.J. Liddell, who had a decision on the upcoming NBA draft pending.

Liddell announced a decision on his future via social media on Friday afternoon, officially declaring for the 2022 NBA draft. After spending three seasons in Colombus, his time as a Buckeye is over and Liddell will now focus on making the jump to the next level.

“I am going to start off by thanking Buckeye Nation,” Liddell said. “These past three years have given me some of the best moments of my life. Being able to have our fans back in the Schott made this year extra fun!

“Thanks to my family and friends for always being there through the highs and lows. I love you with all my heart. To my teammates — I appreciate you all — we have built a bond that will never be broken. The times we spent together will never be forgotten and I’m grateful to call you all my brothers.

“Choosing to play for Coach Holtmann has been the best decision for me not only as a player but as a person. Thank you for believing in me Coach. To our trainers, managers, and the rest of our coaching staff, I appreciate you all for allowing me to carry on the great traditions and culture of being a Buckeye. Most importantly thank you God for everything. Without you none of this would have been possible.

“I will cherish the time and commitment of Buckeye Nation. I hope the feeling is mutual! With that, I’d like to announce that I will be hiring an agent and entering the 2022 NBA draft. Go Bucks!”

Liddell was named third-team All-American this season by the AP, averaging just over 19 points per game. He was a monster on the glass for the Buckeyes as well, grabbing an average of 7.9 rebounds. Where he really improved by returning to Ohio State was on the defensive end. Playing down low at 6-7, Liddell is hoping it will translate to the next level.

Now, he will be heading to the NBA, hoping to become a first-round pick this summer. In what should be a talented pool of college players going through the process, Liddell still has plenty of time to prove himself in front of professional scouts.
