Coopersville (Mich.) interior offensive lineman Gabe VanSickle has committed to Ohio State.

He had previously been committed to Northwestern since May 14, but reopened his recruitment in November following an offer and a pair of visits to Columbus. And now the Buckeyes have now added the 6-foot-5, 315-pounder to their No. 2 recruiting class in the nation.

VanSickle is the No. 663 overall prospect and No. 56 IOL in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 ranks VanSickle higher than other recruiting services, as he checks in as a four-star recruit, the No. 253 prospect and No. 14 IOL in the latest On300.

Offensive line coach Justin Frye, special teams coordinator Parker Fleming and the OSU staff worked quick to add VanSickle to the pledge list. An unofficial visit at the end of October was quickly followed up by an offer and an official visit on Nov. 11 to see the Buckeyes defeat Michigan State.

He does not currently have an On3 NIL Valuation. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Buckeyes add to No. 2 recruiting class in 2024 cycle

With VanSickle now in the mix, Ohio State has 23 commitments in its 2024 recruiting class — which ranks No. 2 in the nation, per the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking. Only Georgia’s class checks in ahead of the Buckeyes.

Ohio State’s class features four five-star recruits, which is the most of any team this cycle. It all starts with Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, the No. 1 overall prospect in the nation. He’s flanked by Chicago St. Ignatius five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott, New Haven (Ind.) five-star WR Mylan Graham and Buford (Ga.) five-star EDGE Eddrick Houston.

An additional five top-100 prospects are currently set to head to Columbus next season, highlighted by Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes four-star quarterback Air Noland, the No. 36 recruit and No. 4 QB in the cycle. Springfield (Ohio) four-star cornerback Aaron Scott Jr and Cleveland Glenville four-star CB Bryce West are the No. 3 and 5 corners in the cycle, while Saint Louis Christian Brothers four-star WR Jeremiah McClellan is the No. 13 wideout.
