Ohio State has made an interesting hire as they add to their impressive defensive coaching staff for 2024.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that the Buckeyes have hired Tulsa cornerbacks coach and defensive pass game coordinator Michael Hunter as a defensive backs graduate assistant, via Matt Zenitz. Hunter is a former NFL defender by way of Oklahoma State, where he also coached prior to Tulsa.

“Ohio State has hired Tulsa cornerbacks coach and defensive pass game coordinator Michael Hunter as a defensive backs graduate assistant, a source tells @247Sports. The former Oklahoma State and NFL cornerback was an analyst and assistant defensive backs coach at Oklahoma State prior to Tulsa,” Zenitz posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

It’ll certainly be an honor for Michael Hunter to continue rising up the coaching ranks, as he takes his talents to Columbus. We’ll see how far he can climb as he moves forward with his new gig.

Ryan Day reveals which Ohio State players will miss spring practice

Following the Ohio State Buckeyes first spring practice of 2024, Ryan Day and freshly-minted offensive coordinator Chip Kelly held a press conference.

During his portion of the press conference, Day provided an update on some players who will be missing from spring practice due to injuries. The names the Buckeyes head coach mentioned were Bryce West, Malik Hartford, Kourt Williams, Payton Pierce and Miles Walker.

However, Day stressed they should all be ready for the preseason, “It’s fair to say that we would expect all those guys back in the preseason though. But they just won’t be participating this spring,” Day added. “Everybody else, there’ll be a couple of guys maybe that are limited, but everybody else will be able to go.”

So it seems Ohio State is in pretty good health entering the 2024 campaign. They have a lot on their shoulders entering the season, and will be expected to make a run at a national title this season.

Time will tell if they’re able to do so, and if Ryan Day’s squad can stay healthy throughout the season. The Buckeyes are motivated, and looking to make some noise in 2024.
