Ohio State offensive coordinator Brian Hartline was taken to a local hospital with injuries on Sunday, according to a statement from the school. Hartline was involved in an ATV accident with a friend, and the pair were taken to the hospital for “non-life threatening injuries.”

Hartline shared an update via his own Twitter account earlier in the day, indicating that he was fine and that he appreciated everyone’s support.

Hartline was promoted this year to the offensive coordinator role for the Buckeyes after serving as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator previously. He replaced the former offensive coordinator, Kevin Wilson, who left the position to take over the head coaching position at Tulsa.

Ohio State releases statement following Brian Hartline injury

“Ohio State assistant football coach Brian Hartline and a friend, unaffiliated with Ohio State, were transported to Riverside Hospital early this morning with non-life threatening injuries sustained in an ATV accident on his property. According to Hartline, he is hoping to be released from the hospital later this evening,” said an official statement from Ohio State via Adam Rittenberg.

The 36-year-old coach was treated at Riverside Methodist Hospital, according to a hospital spokesperson. While the extent of his injuries were not immediately available, the school’s statement and Hartline’s own message seems to indicate that they were minor in nature — with him being able to return home as early as tonight.

“I appreciate everyone’s support. I crashed my side by side on my property and have been taken to the hospital for further evaluation,” Hartline tweeted on Sunday afternoon. “I am doing well.”

A Delaware County Sherriff’s Office Spokesperson confirmed the crash occurred at approximately 1:20 AM on Sunday on Hartline’s property near Powell, Ohio. They also confirmed that he was the driver of the UTV side-by-side involved in the crash, according to a report by NBC4 in Columbus, Ohio.

Since Hartline has joined the Ohio State staff, the Buckeyes offense has led the Big Ten in total offense, and ranked in the top ten nationally. Last season, they were the ninth-ranked offense of 2022 with 490.7 yards per game.

Additionally, three players with Ohio State pedigree were taken with consecutive picks in the 2022 NFL Draft. Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave and Jameson Williams were each selected in the top half of the first round, with Williams having played two seasons with Ohio State before transferring to Alabama. This year, Jaxon Smith-Njigba is poised to be another top draft pick from the school in the 2023 NFL Draft.
