A former Ohio State standout is joining Eddie George at Tennessee State. According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, former Buckeyes captain and NFL lineman Michael Brewster has accepted the tight ends coach job on George‘s staff.

“Sources: Cincinnati quality control coach Michael Brewster has accepted the tight ends coach job at Tennessee State,” revealed Thamel. “The former Buckeye captain and NFL lineman joins Eddie George’s staff.”

Moreover, Brewster began his coaching career in 2017 following a solid playing career. After his impressive time with the Buckeyes, Brewster got a chance in the NFL. The former Buckeyes lineman wasn’t drafted, but he spent two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Then, Brewster played one season each with the Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints, ending his time in the NFL after the 2015 season.

Moreover, Brewster began his coaching career in 2017, hired as an assistant at the Orangewood Christian School in Florida. Then, the former Buckeyes lineman was hired by Western Michigan as a graduate assistant. Afterwards, he joined Bowling Green in the same role. Finally, Luke Fickell gave him a shot at Cincinnati. Brewster was brought to the Bearcats as part of their defensive support staff in 2020, and promoted to the role of quality control coach in 2021.

Now, Brewster will receive the biggest promotion of his career yet. Under George at Tennessee State, the former Ohio State captain will be the tight ends coach for the Tigers. Evidently, George believes in the ability Brewster possesses.

Eddie George is attempting to change the culture at Tennessee State. A former Ohio State star in his own right, he wants to bring the Tigers to new heights. Now, he’s enlisting the help of another former Buckeyes standout to help his cause with the hire of Michael Brewster.

Moreover, Eddie George took over a Tennessee State program that found just nine victories over the last three seasons. However, the former Ohio State star brought the Tigers five wins in his first season as the leader of the Tigers.

It wasn’t just George’s first season at Tennessee State — it was his first season as a coach. He proved he wasn’t in over his head, and now he’s looking to take the Tigers to the next level.

After seeing what Deion Sanders has done for Jackson State, Eddie George wants to do the same for Tennessee State. The easiest way to do so is hiring the right people. Evidently, George believes Michael Brewster can help his cause.
