What's The Impact Of 5-star Wr Jeremiah Smith On The Ohio State Buckeyes Ryan Day, Brian Hartline

This offseason, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day elevated Brian Hartline to the offensive coordinator role. With that, Day wants to see Hartline call some plays, saying that the two are going to talk about it and that he wants Hartline to do some playcalling.

At Big Ten Media Days, Ryan Day addressed playcalling and spoke about the balance that he is going to have with the offense this season.

“Nothing has really changed from the spring,” Ryan Day said. “We’ll see how the preseason goes and see how it all shakes out, the chemistry. It’s allowed me the opportunity to bounce around a little bit more. Also with naming Quinn Tempel our chief of staff, he’s kind of taken some things off of my plate. He’s done a really good job there.”

Day admitted that it’s probably going to be difficult for him to stay away from the offense but it’s important to the team as a whole for him to not become too focused on the offense.

“The way our staff is designed, I think we have a great staff, and it has allowed me to jump around a little bit more. Once we get into the teeth of the season, I know how it’s going to go probably for me. I’m going to end up being right involved with it again, but that being said, as the season wears on, I have to be conscious this year of not getting too locked into the offense and making sure that I have a handle on everything that’s going on.”

During his time at Ohio State, Ryan Day has proven that he’s one of the best offensive minds in the country. However, he’s confident in Brian Hartline and the rest of the offensive staff making it so he doesn’t have to micromanage that side of the ball.

“I think certainly Brian running the offense and being a part of that and Justin Frye with the O-line and some of the additions we’ve had to the staff will allow us to do that.”

Brian Hartline says he’s comfortable calling plays

While it’s still not clear how much of the playcalling responsibility is going to fall on Brian Hartline’s shoulders, he’s ready for whatever Ryan Day needs out of him in that respect.

“Pretty comfortable just because of the surrounding party that I have,” Hartline said. “I think Coach Day has always done it at an elite level. We’ve always produced, from a production standpoint offensively, at an elite level. But the support staff I have around me really empowers me. My confidence comes from having them. So, I would be very confident.”
